It is the Policy of "Company Name" to provide a safe and healthy place of employment. In areas where scaffolding is to be erected, dismantled, altered, moved or accessed for any purpose, the following procedure shall be utilized.

Activities:

Roof Waterproofing works will comprise the following activities

  • Preparation.
  • Installation Extruded polystyrene (XPS) boards.
  • Installation Viper permeable sheets.
  • Flood test.

Purpose:

The purpose of this document is to ensure that the standards and specification of the School Project and that of "Company Name" is effectively implemented during the process of Roof Waterproofing works. This method statement provides the necessary support to the team with relevant information regarding the specific project requirement and a guideline for a procedure to work safely.

Communication:

The contents of this method statement shall be explained and demonstrated to all involved personnel based on specific task allocation. Site Engineer / Supervisor, subcontractors’ signatures shall be taken on the approved method statement as a matter of record.

Daily (at the start of each shift) the Works Supervisor and HSEO will complete a Pre-works briefing with ALL labor based on the activities to be complete in the shift (pre-works briefing will be signed by ALL labor to demonstrate that they have understood the activities and associated controls. They will then complete a site walk to ensure and verify that all the controls are in place. Both the RAMS and Pre-works briefing will be located on site with the Works Supervisor for reference and review.

Construction Methodology:

1. Storage and Handling:

• The material (waterproofing system, insulation and surfacing decorative aggregates) shall be ordered from the approved sources / supplier with all necessary documentation as required.

• Once offloaded the materials shall be checked against the documentation to ensure compliance. Once the delivery order and other relevant documents have been stamped with acceptance by the CONTRACTOR QCE/Store keeper, the material shall be stocked in the storage yards/ lay down area.

Protect material from deterioration during delivery and while stored at site.

• All materials shall be protected against the inclusion of foreign matter, water and other damages at all times.

• Storage the materials in accordance with the approved manufacturer requirements so that material shall not be damaged by excessive changes in temperature.

• MIR shall be submitted along with relevant documents prior to proceeding.

2. Key Materials:

• Waterproofing System.

• Insulation Board.

• Polyethylene sheet.

• Surfacing decorative aggregates.

3. Preparation:

• Ensure that all materials approved and inspected by consultant and clients.

• Ensure that slop layer (screed) completed and maintained the slop thickness as required as per approved shop drawing.

• Ensure that the all dust, loose and friable material must be completely removed from all surfaces before application of the waterproofing system, preferably by brush and/or vacuum. Concrete to be sloped locally around rainwater outlets.

• Ensure that surface condition shall be secure, clean, dry, smooth, free from frost, contaminants, voids, protrusions, organic growths, and compatible with the proposed waterproofing system.

• Ensure that the upstands, Krebs, box gutters, sumps, grooves, chases and expansion joints: Correctly formed.

• Ensure that the movement joints correctly formed and free from debris.

• Ensure that the penetrations and outlets fixed and located at correct height relative to substrate and free of debris.

• Ensure that the battens, fillets, trims and anchoring plugs or strips shall be fixed properly.

• Ensure that the chamfered shall be where required as per approved shop drawing.

4. Primer coat application for waterproofing:

• Ensure that surface areas shall be dry prior to proceed application.

• Primer SN, two-component epoxy primer with fillers with a smooth spatula or rake and sprinkle the surface followed by Quartz 0.5.

• The waterproofing membrane must be laid within 6 to 24 hours from the application of the primer (at a temperature of between +15°C and +25°C). If the level of humidity in the substrate is higher than 4% apply two or more coats of Triblock P three-component epoxy cementitious primer according to the condition of the substrate. When the primer has cured sufficiently (3-7 days) apply a coat of epoxy Primer SN.

5. Application of Membrane - PURTOP 400 M:

• Application of the membrane PURTOP 400 M must be applied at a temperature of between +5°C and +40°C.

• Before applying PURTOP 400 M, remove all dust from the surface with an industrial vacuum cleaner. The temperature of the substrate must be at least 3°C higher than the dew-point temperature, while the level of residual humidity must be no higher than 4%.

• Component A must be mixed carefully before use until it has an even color. To apply the PURTOP 400 M membrane, use a high pressure industrial bi-mixer unit with flow and temperature control, preferably with a self-cleaning gun.

• The application temperature of the two components must be between +65°C and +85°C and the pressure must be between 160 and 200 bar.

• PURTOP 400 M must be applied continuously on all the horizontal surfaces and vertical overlaps and inside any drain collectors positioned on the surfaces.

• If the application of PURTOP 400 M is interrupted and then taken up again after the maximum covering time (2 hours), an overlap of at least 30 cm must be made after applying a coat of Primer PU60 (the maximum covering time of this primer is 1 hour).

• Minimum dry film thickness 2mm on flat surface.

• Color shall be approved as per supplied by manufacturer.

6. Installation of Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) Boards:

• Insulation shall be Inverted roof insulation (closed cell type) and Third party product certification from British Board of Agrément t (BBA) Certificate.

• Ensure that the compressive strength (minimum) at 10% compression: 300 kPa. And Thermal conductivity (maximum): 0.20 W/m2K U-Value- As per the project target LEED requirements.

• Insulation thickness shall be 180mm- Supplier to provide dew point and u value calculations to determine final thickness.

• Insulation shall be facing smooth, dense skin on both faces and edges as per manufacturers requirements.

7. Installation of Vapor Permeable Sheets:

• Water infiltration reduction membrane for inverted roofs. Laid over the insulation boards to limit the water passing through the board joints.

• High performance non–woven polyethylene membrane from Non-Woven Third-party certification: British Board of Agrément (BBA) Certificate.

• Minimum weight of shall be follow as bellow:

• Sheets shall be Weight (minimum):

o Weight (minimum): 0.06kg/m2

o Thickness (minimum): 0.17mm.

8. Loose surfacing decorative aggregates:

• Aggregates sample shall be approved by consultant and client prior to proceed.

• Aggregate shall be washed clean free from fines and dust.

• Aggregate size shall be graded 20-40mm free from fines and sharps.

• Aggregate thickness over all depth 50mm minimum gravel as per insulation fire performance requirements otherwise noted.

9. Flood Test or Roof Water Leak Test:

• Ensure that surface area shall be cleaned

• Ensure that the external cover and seal.

• Flood the wall at the levels 100 mm minimums.

• Flood duration: Two days.

• After Completion of test slowly drain water from the roof.

10. Cleaning and Handover:

• When all the activities are completed, the area will be cleaned thoroughly. Once the cleaning is done and approved, a "Request for Inspection" will be raised for acceptance.

11. House Keeping:

• Safety Engineer shall ensure to maintain safety for all aspects.

• Safety assistants are allocated all the site locations to maintain housekeeping.

• All demolished/removed material to be disposed of in one allocated area for pick-up/removal from site.
